We suspending our breeding program for the foreseeable future due to personal circumstances.
We are referring our clients and prospective owners to Birchgrove in Eugene and Whitenights in Tacoma. They are two breeders we have come to know and trust. They raise fabulous kittens and take the same time and care as we have. We have kept in contact with each other because of our love for the breed and desire to raise the best kittens possible. You will not be disappointed in chosing a Siberian!
NW Forest Siberians is located in Damascus, Oregon, just outside Portland. We are breeders of the Siberian cat, first brought to this country in the 1990's but roamed through Russia for over 2000 years. This rare breed has been shown to be hypo-allergenic, the perfect solution for cat lovers who suffer from cat allergies! Our queen is from a champion line and imported directly from eastern Europe. We are members of Cat Fanciers' Association and The International Cat Association.
The Siberian Forest Cat is a natural born cat (as opposed to bred) found in the wilds of Siberia has been scientifically evaluated and discovered to be missing one glyco-protein found in almost all other cat breeds, the Fel d1 protein that is produced in the sebaceous glands. This is the one that causes all the allergic reactions in cat lovers – and those who don’t like cats. Without the Fel d1 protein, there are few if any allergic reactions. Imagine being “sneeze free” around your precious cat!

Siberians were first brought to this country in the 1990’s but roamed through Russia for over 2000 years. This rare breed has been shown to be hypo-allergenic, the perfect solution for cat lovers who suffer from cat allergies! Our queen is from a champion line and imported directly from Poland. While our male was born here in the U.S., his parents were born in St. Petersburg and Leningrad. We are members of The International Cat Association (TICA) and the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA).

These wonderful cats are unusual in ways other than missing the allergy causing gene. They have personalities unlike most cats in that they exhibit dog-like qualities.

No matter where I go in the house, Xerxes follows me. He comes when called, and greets us at the door when we come home. When I work in my office, usually all the cats are in there with me, sleeping on the desk, my lap, the couch, on top of the computer...they are still cats! Ariel loves to play fetch just like a dog, and will sit and stare at you, meowing once in a while with the toy in her mouth. She drops it at your feet, picks it up again and meows. She’ll play fetch for 20 minutes, if you let her.

They settle in quickly to homes that have dogs – usually in about three days – and handle shipping like pros, adjusting into their new homes within a couple of days.

Siberians are big, powerful cats, the males weighing in between 12 and 17 pounds, sometimes more, and the females just a bit smaller. They have strong rear legs, which allows them to jump like you can’t believe. And knickknacks...Siberians are not the delicately adept, weaving in and out without touching a thing, they charge ahead like a bull in a china shop! As they are so big and strong, if something is in the way, they just push it aside.

I thought my precious hand painted fish plate on the mantel six feet off the ground was safe. Casper, a flamepoint who went to Oakland, California, leaped from the loft in our home down to the mantel – a distance of about 8 feet – landing on the mantel and smashing to the floor everything on that end, including the fish plate. Glue. I have now invested in glue.

If you are interested in getting one of these huggable, snuggly lumbering teddybears, or have any questions, please contact us by email. We love to talk about them, praising their wonderful qualities. We also have a page of references by some of our owners – Click here. They have stories about the antics and settling in, as well as their allergy reactions. I love placing my kittens in allergy homes and hear the delighted response of their new owners.

We are very particular as to who takes our kittens and want to know about your household, pet history, and care you plan to provide, so don’t be surprised at the questionnaire we send at your inquiry. We are protective of our babies because their health is so important to us and we have quite a bit invested in them as a breed to provide the highest health quality. We work with them extensively so they will make companions that don’t bite or scratch and allow you to care for them without a major fight. Our vet loves our cats as they are so easy to examine and treat.

We will send out some of our cat fur if you send us a SASE or a piece of cloth they have slept on for $10, to be applied to the price of the cat. Contact us for more info regarding testing. We also welcome visits by appointment or during scheduled open houses.
